January Highlights

Wow!  It's hard to believe that we have nearly completed our first month of 2012!  We've had a great month.  Here are some of the activities that we have done in January 2012.

New Year's Resolutions from Amy Lemons' template.

Cute resolutions!

Snowglobe stories inspired from Pinterest.

In science we have been studying the solar system.  Here is a put the planets in order activity.
Chinese New Year Graphing that I got from First Grade Blue Skies.
Our monthly take home project was to make a time line of your life using coins to represent each year of your life.
Can't wait for February to get here now!

Tag! You're It!

1. You must post the rules.
2. Post 12 fun facts about yourself on the blog post.
3. Answer the questions the tagger set for you in their post, and then create 12 new questions for the people you tagged.
4. Tag 12 people and link them on your post.
5. Let them know you've tagged them!

12 Fun Facts about me...

1.  I love to exercise!  I have over 100 workouts that I rotate in our home gym!
2.  I love to read for pleasure!  You can always find me reading my Kindle or something on the internet!
3.  To some people I am known as "Bargain Becky!"  I am always on the lookout for a great deal.  I regularly check slickdeals.net, dealseeingmom, and freebies4mom.  I think my best deal was getting a big box of Pampers diapers on Amazon for under 50 cents after coupons!
4.  I love to find ways to make delicious low-fat meals.
5.  I have been married for 9 years.
6.  We have a wonderful daughter that is 3.
7.  I am the oldest.  I have 2 younger brothers.
8.  I have a super student teacher this semester!
9.  I have one of the greatest classes in several years!
10.  I am in my 15th year of teaching.
11.  I love purple!  Pink is great too!
12.  I was featured on the back cover of  Collage Video's Spring DVD Catalog in a bikini.  Click here to see it!

Unfortunately, I think I am going to have to be a rule breaker.  I simply do not have time to finish steps 4 and 5.  After spending about an hour working on this much, I am sorry to have to pass on the rest.  Having a 3 year old and being a busy mom, wife, and teacher I don't have the time to sit down and finish.  Sorry if anyone thinks I'm a party pooper.

Carl the Complainer

Our Reading Street Story for this week is Carl the Complainer.  It is a new story and not listed in the old Reading Street.  Our phonics skill for this week is Prefixes un, re, pre, and dis.  As usual, here is the game that I created to share!

We also will do the weekly comprehension check from here.

{Here} is a Carl the Complainer Readers Theater Script from Cary Short and a {Trifold} from her too!

You can do the Dominoes from {here} and {here}.

Enjoy your week!

Even and Odd Game

Last November I remember downloading an even and odd game: Turkey Trot from Sunny Days in Second Grade.  I really liked this game.  It inspired me to make a Valentines version.  So here it is!

Let me know what you think about the game.  I love comments!

100 Days!

Today was our 100th day of school.  We celebrated by doing these activities:

The first one I created from a Pinterest inspiration from Kinderpond.

Click the picture to download flip a coin 100 times.

I also like to do a weekly focus poem.  Here is another website that has some great poems about 100 days.

Happy 100 Days of School!

Fire Fighter! Unit 5: Week 1

We're just cruising right along in our Reading Street 2nd Grade Series.  This week it's on to Fire Fighter!  Our phonics and spelling skill is suffixes: -ly, -ful, -er, and -or.  Here is my weekly board game to go along with this skill.

Enjoy your week!

Math Data

I've been thinking a lot about our Data Binders and how I want my kids to track how they are doing in math.  Today I created this multi-graphing page so that we can keep the majority of our math data on one page.  Here is what I came up with.
if you find it useful!

MLK Jr. Day

How are you going to celebrate MLK Jr. Day?  We are going to have a discussion after we watch Harry Kindergarten's Video.  Then we will also do an, "I Have a Dream" writing project if time allows.

The First Tortilla, Unit 4: Week 5

So this week in Reading Street we will be reading the story The First Tortilla.  If you have the older version of Reading Street, I don't think you have this story.  Our phonics skill to study this week is Vowel Digraph oo, ue, ew, and ui.  Here is the game board that we will use along with several other activities listed below.

The First Tortilla Practice Pages

The First Tortilla Comprehension Check

The First Tortilla Dominoes

The First Tortilla Power Point

Also,  we did get to see some wonderful hot air balloons up close yesterday!  I was actually in the bathroom and suddenly heard this loud noise outside.   I thought, "What in the world!"   Then I heard a fire roaring noise several seconds later.  We ran outside and took these pictures in our neighborhood.

This one was the first balloon to arrive in our neighborhood.  It landed right around the corner from our house .

Here's another one that was going down behind our neighbor's house across the street.

This one was right above our back yard.
Also I've been having a hard time linking a picture to another site in Blogger recently.  Is anyone else having this problem?  Have a great week everyone!

Currently!

I know I'm late to the linky party, but better late than never right!  I'm linking up to Oh'Boy 4th Grade: Currently.  Here's mine:

Have a great weekend!  We're having a balloon fiesta this weekend in town and hoping to go see a few beautiful balloons in the sky.

Another Versatile Blogger Award

I just wanted to say THANKS to First Grade and Fabulous and Second Grade Style that recently awarded me the Versatile Blogger Award.  I received this award several months ago, and you can see my post about it here.

Thanks ladies for awarding  me the Versatile Blogger Award !

I was also excited to learn that you can use Sticky Notes with Windows 7!  This is super cool!  Check out Miss Kindergarten's post about how to use them.  It's as simple as pressing Ctrl N.  You can also right click on a sticky and change the color of it.  I've already made a grocery list on my desktop.

The Night the Moon Fell

This week in Reading Street my 2nd graders will be reading the story, The Night the Moon Fell. We are also observing the moon each evening for homework, so this story goes along very well with our moon project.  The  pattern for this week is compound words.  Here is my weekly game that I created to go along with the phonics pattern.

Here is also a trifold on the story that Cary Short created.

I hope you enjoy them and have a great week!
